Fiddle Contests

Writer: generationsartsedgenerationsartsed

The first fiddle contests appeared in the U.S. in November of 1736. This specialized art is handed down from artist to artist - there is no sheet music to learn from. When you learn a fiddle tune, you start with a basic melody, then you create variations from there. Often true authentic fiddle players are creating new versions of their tune as they compete.

Idaho has a strong tradition of Fiddle Contest. When you compete, you will play a Hoedown, a Waltz, and then a Tune of Choice
